So far no one's mentioned that the elders' reporting to the police is highly unusual - in fact, it represents a welcome change.
Agreed. Though I have to wonder how forthcoming they would have been had the man still been a member of the congregation.

church shouldn't have divulged child-porn suspect's alleged confession, attorney says.
elders in the jehovah’s witnesses church violated the confidentiality of steven lindhorst of paso robles when they told police about an alleged confession he made regarding child pornography, according to a defense motion.. .

they say women are hard to figure out.
she is is proactive about retirement planning but talks about how things might be in the new system.
she shuns one of our children (dfd) but put him as beneficiary one one of her life insurance policies.
I would say that a lot more JWs than we realize are 'hedging their bets'.
My oldest brother is the PO in his congregation, and as hardcore as they come. Even he has been putting money into an IRA account. He's spent the last thirty years pioneering, believing that the end was right around the corner, while at the same time, preparing for the reality that it won't happen in his lifetime.
i have been studying with the jw since june of 2016 and they say only the ones who make up the 144.
000 and can partake of the bread and cup.
is this true?.
Also bear in mind that JWs once taught that the number of those who have the heavenly calling was sealed in 1935. Who these 'anointed' are, partaking of the emblems, is anybody's guess.
bit of a long winding topic title but the thread on the dub in the bunker video made me think of what thing the wts does that are seen as basically impossible for anyone else to do and therefore evidence of holy spirit and god's blessing, yet those same things are done by the rest of the world day in, day out.. i have a few examples:.
- ability to buy a feck off big printing press and print thousand of magazines an hour.
only that every other big publishing organisation uses the same presses to do the same thing.. - ability to get inexperienced people to act using an acting coach as well as produce feature length films with reasonably high production value levels and special effects.
Don't forget about the worldwide preaching work. The holy spirit must be behind that. Except when it comes to yielding actual results, that is. Then the holy spirit is pretty impotent.
" the most important thing in the olympic games is not to win but take part" .
yet according to the daily mail, the entire russian olympic team will today be banned from competing at the rio games next month as punishment for their country's state sponsored doping programme.
it therefore seems to me the olympics has become associated with doping & drugs, and politics becoming an integral part of the games.. do you think that the 2016 olympcs can still unite countries in a positive way?.
Maybe it's just me but I'm finding the Olympics less and less interesting and exciting. There's the cheating obviously but also the financial corruption and harm it causes to the people who live there.
Personally, I haven't really found them interesting since they started allowing professionals to compete.
I get that they're the best athletes in the world at their respective sports. And I was as captivated as any American by the original "Dream Team".
But their was always something endearing about watching amateurs compete and succeed at the highest level. Most of the pros are simply there out of a sense of obligation. For them, winning a gold medal is rather anti-climactic in comparison to their professional accomplishments. For a guy like Andy Murray, for example- I doubt a gold medal in the Olympics is anywhere near as meaningful as winning his first Wimbledon.
having been out of the cult for a few years now, i can finally sit back and accurately access the good, bad and the ugly, especially as it relates to education and having a sense of self-worth and realizing your potential.
in my opinion, religion is a total crock, but at least in some religions there is at least some value that you can translate your experiences and education gained in such into the real world.
for example, the mormons have their own accredited university where you can obtain a degree and you can actually put that down on your resume and use it in the real world.
I think it's by design that JWs are so lacking in social skills. It's what keeps so many trapped inside.
If they venture out into the 'world' to see what it has to offer, most are ill-equipped to deal with it, and come running back to the organization believing the world is evil, and the congregation is the only safe haven.
what were/are your speculations about the great tribulation.
unless those days were cut short no flesh would be saved?.
When the Cubs win the World Series.
if you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing about jws would you do it?
and what would you choose to say to yourself?
do you think you could have convinced yourself not to get baptised if you chose the right thing to say?
Hard to say, because I was so convinced it was the truth at the time. I really had no other aspirations at the time. But a more objective view of their history may have given me pause. Also knowing the new system wouldn't be here yet in 2016.
Ultimately, I would like to go back and tell myself that I didn't know nearly enough about the world to be so sure of myself.
so if there was no promise of a "reward" for faithfulness...no paradise...no eternal life etc, how many witnesses would stick with the "faith"?.
sure, the reward might be "making god happy", but he supposedly holds out the paradise promise with eternal life as an incentive right?.
before anyone says, that's what satans challenge regarding job was about, just think.
I always found this to be one of the biggest frauds of the JW religion- their claim that they serve god solely out of love, and not due to any promised reward of eternal life. I, too, often wondered how many would stay in if the new world weren't constantly dangled in front of them.
my favorite were the ones where they were reading a wt publication in the break room at work, and an inquisitive co-worker, thirsty for spiritual knowledge approaches them.
this leads to an informal witness, which eventually leads to bible study and baptism.. in all my years of working, i've never had anyone show the slightest bit of interest in what i was reading while i was on my break at work.
but as i said, maybe it's just me..
